Voting ritesThe Supreme Court decision in Shelby County v. Holder suspended review of voting changes under Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act. So, WE must be on the look out for discriminatory voting changes that undermine the right to vote. There are actions that we can take to insure that the inclusion of all people in this important and fundamental process are protected. Here are Red Flags to be on the lookout for:

  • Changes that seem to be targeted in ways that disadvantage minority voters (e.g., adoption of inconvenient or hostile polling sites) or any voter.
  • Changes that are adopted last minute and/or without public comment
  • Distribution of confusing or misleading information related to voting changes (e.g., explanation for the change doesn’t make sense.
