Dr. Jackie Mayfield

On August 28th, 10 p.m. EST, on a free conference call, Dr. Joel Martin will interview Dr. Jackie Mayfield, one of the nation’s foremost advocates of financial freedom and business ownership. 1-712-432-3100 Code: 917816

Meet the man who acknowledges “God has a calling on my life” and promises regardless of your current status, background, business or vision, you will receive value on this call. Dr. Jackie Mayfield creates business owners and millionaires as his lifetime commitment to self-empowerment.

Dr. Mayfield was born in Bogalusa, Louisiana in 1948. A child of the Civil Rights Movement, he was unable to finish high school and has been self-employed his entire adult life.

Consider the following:

  • He’s mentored and developed 7 individuals from being in poverty to being millionaires and coached more than 400 entrepreneurs on how to achieve a greater level of business and financial success in their chosen fields.
  • In 1982, he created ComproTax. Thirty-two years later, ComproTax is the largest Black-owned income tax preparation and bookkeeping service in the nation, a multi-million dollar business with more than 200 “quasi-franchise” offices nationwide. Approximately 75% of the businesses are owned by women.
  • He’s the prime mover behind the Black Millionaires Mentorship Program, part of a national effort to produce role models for self-reliance, self-determination and economic self-sufficiency for people of African descendent and their families.
  • He and his team have a system and commitment that consistently creates successful entrepreneurs.

Dr. Jackie Mayfield is a visionary and elder. His experience, insights and wisdom are not to be missed. Dr. George C. Fraser. African American elders are indispensable resources for their wisdom and guidance, and are, in turn, recognized and given strength, empowered, and authenticated.

Dr. Martin asked what it takes to create financial freedom.

The secret, Dr. Mayfield says, begins within: It is internal validation without external validation and the degree to which you believe this.

Bring your questions to the call.  Thursday evening, August 28th, 7 p.m. AZ time, 10 p.m. EST  1-712-432-3100 Code: 917816

Cowgirl Joel on creating habits

Dr. Cowgirl Joel Martin

By the age of five, it’s been said, our core set of beliefs about ourselves and the world around us are formed. We take these beliefs into our grown up lives. They become habits. No news right? Well reading “The Power Of Habit: Why we do what we do in life and business” by Charles Duhigg, I got a new take on this.

Basically he says “habits get formed in a three-step loop (and he gives the science behind it which is great for us analytical types). First there is a cue, a trigger that tells our brains to go into automatic mode and which habit to use. Then there is a routine, which can be physical or mental or emotional. Finally there is a reward which helps our brains to figure out if this particular loop is worth remembering for the future. Over time, this loop: cue, routine, reward; cue, routine, reward becomes more and more automatic. The cue and reward become intertwined until a powerful sense of anticipation and craving emerges.”

[Tweet “Breaking a bad habit is difficult. What is harder is recognizing the bad habit.”]I was preparing to deliver this distinction to attendees on my virtual coaching call and always want to give a story to bring concepts to life. I laughed when I realized that traveling with my working mom could be a #weightgainer. Here’s the backstory: As a kid I loved traveling with my mother which I got to do when we’d go to family reunions. Cue: Road trip. Routine: Since the trips were long we needed to pack a lunch. Reward: Love. Laughter. Sharing this special private time we had together. Chocolate candy and snack food that you could eat on the Greyhound bus was always part of the road trip.

Okay, here’s the #weightgainer. I drive – a lot – by myself to meetings, etc. What I now realize is an embedded habit with a lot of emotional attachment connected to it was —- you guessed it, eating snacks, Cheetos and chocolate while driving. By changing the routine to something healthier and keeping the cue: travel and the reward: connection, I “should” be on the way to breaking that loop.

Do you have a #weightgainer or other habit you need to break?

Positively Powerful Gathering at the Desert Botanical Garden

Positively Powerful Gathering at the Desert Botanical Garden

This past Friday, there was a truly wonderful gathering of Positively Powerful Woman Awards recipients and their friends for breakfast at the spectacular  Phoenix Botanical Garden. This was an opportunity for me to introduce this year’s Positively Powerful Woman Award recipients to our community of past award recipients. The honorees will be officially honored at the Positively Powerful Women Awards luncheon on June 20 at the Ritz-Carlton, Phoenix. After a welcome to the Garden by MaryLynn Mack, Deputy Director, we celebrated the accomplishments of all recipients, acknowledged Positively Powerful sponsors and special guests then toured the Garden. As one person said “It was so fantastic to see nearly 80 people this morning at the VIP Breakfast with Dr. Joel P Martin. The Desert Botanical Garden was a fabulous location for the breakfast. It was great to see so many, many phenomenal people!” Another said, “Awesome and inspiring!” Yes it was. “Thank you” to Desert Botanical Garden for making this possible.
