“Above the cloud with its shadow is the star with its light.” Pythagoras

It was a big year and we made a Positively Powerful difference together. We celebrated the 10th Annual Awards at the Desert Botanical Garden where we spotlighted women business leaders Nona Lee, Arizona Diamondbacks, Lisa Loo, Arizona State University, Rhonda Peter-James, Intel and Jackie Wszalek, Splash Printing and Marketing.

Then in collaboration with ASU-CSRD and Fresh Start Women’s Foundation, Ilana Lowery, editor-in-chief of the Phoenix Business Journal and I co-facilitated the Global Woman’s World Cafe. In the US, we designed and implemented the 3-Day Women’s Empowerment Workshop with ASU-CSRD; and in Mayalsia, with Milestone Training. Desert Botanical Garden was the site for the Positively Powerful Sponsorship Appreciation “Our Sponsors are Stars” Breakfast.

Success for Women in business is good for everyone

Success for Women in business is good for everyone

Success for Women in business is good for everyone

The success of women in leadership roles.

The payout for firms that embrace success for females in leadership roles could be lucrative, as studies have shown that companies with 30% women executives average better returns. That in itself should be enough to sway corporations on the fence about installing female advancement programs and incentives into their organizations. Whether it will remains to be seen….Further advancement will likely require a cultural and psychological shift within the minds of employees of all levels and, perhaps, in all of our minds.

“No country can ever truly flourish if it stifles the potential of its women and deprives itself of the contributions of half of its citizens.” — Michelle Obama, Former First Lady of the United State.

While there has been some success for women in the corporate arena, the fact is that gender inequality stems from a slew of assumptions, prejudices and learned behaviors that take time to be undone.   “People tune women out and why do they do that?” posits Betty Spence president, National Association for Female Executives “That’s a cultural thing and it’s probably a universal thing.” If true, such a tendency would mean a swath of input and human capital is going unrecognized.

Declare and commit to success-related actions

The growth in women’s accomplishments are moving at a painfully slow pace with results being that some very exceptional women with diverse backgrounds are losing faith and are giving up on the business world. Before giving up, remember there are many paths to success and sometimes all that is needed to clear your mind, refocus on your vision of success and commit.

Diversity, is about the ingredients

Diversity, is about the ingredients

diversity bikers

Members of B.A.C.A (Bikers Against Child Abuse) and Dr Joel Martin.

Beyond the surface lies a quality of human connectedness of intention, vision, and commitment available when we see beyond what is apparent. What connects me to these bikers (BACA) that I met at the 2015 eWomen International Conference is that we share a passionate commitment for making a difference that is “bigger than us”.

Diversity is about people

Diversity, as we are using here is ultimately about people and not demographics. It is about what we can learn and teach each other that may result in our solving together, issues that we all face.

There are many ways that our language and society entwine. How are you telling your story?
