MaryLynn Mack 5-4-15A vision realized begins with a visionary leader. In 2015, the Positively Powerful Woman Award recipient who will receive the inaugural  Visionary Leadership Award is MaryLynn Mack.

Those who have attended and followed the 7 years of Positively Powerful Woman Awards know that several amazing women have been recognized specifically as Global Leaders. MaryLynn could have easily received this Award. She is Deputy Director of the Desert Botanical Garden, a Phoenix treasure and international travel destination with exhibits from stalwarts such as Dale Chilhuly. Her primary objective is to create an extraordinary guest experience. To achieve that goal, she is responsible for the Garden’s Guest Services, Marketing, Facilities, Security, IT, Event Services, Food Services and Retail.

When I met MaryLynn, I realized her undeniable dedication, passion and creativity. When I had the opportunity to learn more about her and her goals for the Garden, I was convinced that this woman is a force — a positively, powerful force.

However, I chose MaryLynn to be the inaugural recipient of the Visionary Leadership Award because of her bold vision and commitment that extends far into the future. She is leading a five-year initiative that will create a master plan for an innovative Children/Family Garden space and experience, for the youth and young-at-heart in the Valley and beyond.

You must be fearless and steadfast with eyes to the sky and feet planted firm. These qualities are the essence of MaryLynn Mack. To have a vision is great, to bring that vision to life over and over again, as MaryLynn has done throughout her career, is exceptional.

  • At the Garden, she has created innovative programs that will ensure the sustainability of DBG photothe Garden for years to come. Those programs include “Volunteer U,” a management program that is a model for training new volunteers and the Monarch Council, a way to ensure that the governance mission of the Garden continues with our Valley’s emerging professionals.
  • But the recognition and the reach of MaryLynn’s gifts do not end there. She is a Piper Fellow recipient and a graduate of the Getty Leadership Institute.
  • Before coming to Phoenix, MaryLynn resided in San Diego. While there, she saw a need for housing for women and children who were victims of domestic violence. MaryLynn went into motion and became the founding Director of Operations of a 75-bed facility for these women and children. Her program was recognized by the Points of Light Foundation and the city of San Diego as one of the most innovative and successful long-term residential programs for women.
