Nicole Stanton -2013*304For me, that quote speaks volumes about the woman who will receive the 2015 Philanthropic Leadership Award at the Positively Powerful Woman Awards, June 5th. Nicole Stanton: An experienced litigator, managing partner and associate general counsel at one of the nation’s most prestigious law firms, Quarles & Brady. First lady to a metroplex with more than 1.5 million citizens. Wife and a mother of two.

Reviewing this list, you would think that Nicole Stanton has her hands completely filled. Think again.

This year’s Philanthropic Leadership Award recipient is a wonderful embodiment of the above quote said about her by one of her colleagues. Nicole strongly believes in service to her community and service to others and that is evident in the causes she champions.

Nicole is a philanthropic creator. She founded “Stop Bullying AZ,” an initiative that facilitates positive and safe learning environments in schools by supporting and promoting initiatives that protect all children. The initiative has partnered with Arizona State University to create the Dion Initiative to further its outreach beyond bullying to address larger concerns of child well-being. She was also involved in the creation of WoMAC at the Phoenix Art Museum.

Nicole is a philanthropic advocate. She has committed her time and effort to a host of causes including HIV/AIDS research and prevention, LGBTQ rights and the empowerment of women and girls.

When asked about Nicole, Dr. Matthew Whitaker, ASU Foundation Professor of History and Founding Director, Center for the Study of Race and Democracy, captured the impact of her service with the following words: “‘The tree’ ‘is known by its fruit,’ and few leaders can point to living, breathing manifestations of their labors. She is a champion of diversity as a distinguished attorney, a patron of the arts, a committed humanist and one of the most dedicated and successful civic leaders and philanthropists in Phoenix history.”

Nicole has served and continues to serve, the valley with grace, power, determination and empathy. She has made an impact on the community that will be felt for generations to come. And as Phoenix is featured on a national stage, we know that our image is in great hands for we have Nicole Stanton as an advocate, a spokesperson, a supporter and a leader.

And as I’ve heard from so many, Nicole is a good friend.
